Permanent Makeup Aftercare is extremely important in how your eyebrows or lips heal.
With the wrong aftercare complications can begin while healing and excessive loss of pigment can happen.
Here are some tips to help your PMU at the beginning stages of healing, to achieve the best results.
Tip #1 - Scabbing
DO NOT pick any scabbing, that will pull out any pigment with it and infection can happen. Around day 5 light scabbing stage begins. Let any dry skin naturally exfoliate and do not touch or scratch the area that was worked on.
Tip #2 - UV Rays
Keep out the sun the first week after your service. Wearing sunglasses and sun hat can keep UV rays away from your permanent makeup. UV rays can fade pigment over time, therefore after your healed PMU (One week) small amount of sunscreen can be applied on treated areas.
"PMU creates a wound to the skin, so you need to treat it like a wound and keep it clean and prevent excessive stress to the healing area." – PMU Artist Tina Davies
Tip #3 - Permanent Makeup Aftercare
After PMU service for the next 2 hours, every 30 minutes blot the area with a tissue, to collect any lymph fluid and prevent any scabbing forming.
-Gently wash Eyebrows (Doesn't apply for Lip Blush) 2x daily. Any gentle soap will do such as: Cetaphil or Baby shampoo.
-Apply a rice grain amount of Aquaphor, A&D or our PMU aftercare sold at the salon.
Tip #4 - Water/Sauna
Avoid any water getting to treated area. Saunas, hot showers and cardio exercises should be avoided for at least a week to prevent sweat getting into Permanent Makeup.
Tip #5 - Dry V.S. Wet Healing
Dry Healing: Not applying any topical creams to the area.
Wet Healing: Applying a small amount of cream to the area 2x daily.
Which method would be the best, will be decided by your Permanent Makeup Artist.
Tip #6 - Botox/Chemical Treatments
If you're planning on getting Botox or any harsh Chemical Treatments, it should be done 4 weeks before or 4 weeks after your PMU service.
Botox relaxes muscles and changes your look, if you don't follow the rules your Permanent makeup could end up looking uneven.
What should be Avoided for 4 weeks: Retinol, Acids, Fragrance, Mechanical Exfoliation, Microdermabrasion and Chemical Peels
Final Tip:
If you want your PMU results to last long and stay nicely defined, follow proper aftercare as mentioned above and apply SPF daily.
